Bouye juice (baobab)

Preparation

5 min

Servings

6 glasses (250ml)

Bouye juice is a very popular traditional drink in West Africa. Prepared from the pulp of the baobab fruit, it is simply mixed with water (or condensed milk) and a little sugar to obtain a refreshing, nutritious, and vitamin C-rich drink. It is consumed to quench thirst, boost energy, and enjoy its daily health benefits.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup baobab powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp orange blossom water
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 liter oat milk
  • ½ cup organic cane sugar (or to taste)

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Place the bouye powder in a bowl or mixing bowl
  2. Gradually add the water/plant-based milk, stirring to avoid lumps
  3. Strain through a sieve to get a smooth texture
  4. Sweeten and add the orange blossom water, then mix
  5. Chill for 1 hour before serving

Tips and advice

Add sugar gradually to your taste.

Bouye contains 6 times more vitamin C than an orange, 4 times more antioxidants than a kiwi, 10 times more than an apple, and 2 times more calcium than milk!
